This is the Building Stronger Communities Council

In June, we are highlighting Clinton County's Building Stronger Communities Council, a behind the scenes service council working to build a comprehensive human service network in our region, providing resources and safety for the community.

With a universal mission to enrich the quality of life in Clinton County, the BSCC is comprised of community reps, local government members, county commissioners, and local service agencies, as well as community members. While not a service provider itself, the Council supports local agencies in their efforts to support Clinton County residents.

Formed in the mid 90's, the BSCC was developed when state leaders recognized human service providers were working to meet greater needs for children and families. At that time, a state task force created guidelines to meeting those needs, which included the formation of one multi-purpose or collaborative body to coordinate human services in the community. These collaborative bodies exist in every county in Michigan.

Today, the BSCC is made up of both public and private sector representatives that are connected to human services in some way. While not providing service itself, the BSCC coordinates and supports the community by addressing widespread issues and unmet needs through their work with agencies in the area.

Many of these community service agencies include local coalitions and councils as well. In March, the Child Abuse and Neglect Council offers the Laughing, Loving, and Leading Conference for parents and caregivers. In August, the BSCC participates in Project Connect, Clinton County's annual back to school event. While these are some of the BSCC's largest events, the Council partners with many additional projects throughout the year.

Any community member or human service agency is encouraged to become involved in the BSCC. The Council may offer support in allocation of new and sustaining resources, and continues to explore ways to improve how services are funded and delivered to effectively serve Clinton County families.
