Join the fun with Owosso Pride

This month, we interviewed the committee behind the wildly successful Pride events in downtown Owosso. Hear about their hard work, their inspiration, and catch them next summer!

How was the group founded?

Owosso Pride began as a group of LGBTQ+ Owosso community members and allies meeting up in Spring of 2020 to plan for a way to bring awareness about Pride to our area. Our committee of volunteers has continued to grow since then.

What are some of your current ongoing, or biggest projects?

Every June, our committee hands out Pride flags, stickers, pins and more for free to our

community to show support to our LGBTQ+ friends and family. In the past we have set up a

booth at our local Farmers Market to pass these Pride items out and reach more community

members. In June of 2022, we added a Pride celebration to our local Farmers Market for one

day with music, dancing and family friendly fun.

How does the group collaborate with other local agencies?

In June of 2022, we teamed up with local churches and pastors that wanted to participate in our Pride Celebration. We look forward to the ways we can collaborate with more local

organizations in the future.

What are some of the most successful aspects of your work?

Our social media has become a safe place for many community members to feel supported. We also use our platform to educate and bring awareness to the meaning behind Pride.

It’s been amazing to see more businesses each year want to show their Pride support by

hanging a flag in their windows for the month of June (sometimes all year). Our committee

volunteers their time to deliver Pride flags to businesses and private homes and each year more and more flags have been handed out.

Ways for community members to get involved?

We have an ongoing volunteer sign up that we plan to utilize during the planning months of our next Pride 2023 event. Anyone can message us on our Facebook Page or Instagram to sign up to volunteer!
